Bianca Andreescu Bio
Andreescu is one of the youngest stars on the WTA circuit currently at 19, and she started her career at just seven years old, when she first picked up a racket. By 11 she was a part of the Canadian national training programme, and in just a few short years would become one of the best juniors in the world.
In 2014 she succeeded in the Les Petits As, one of the bigger junior events in world tennis and just two years later she picked up her first professional title, the very same year she turned pro.
That 2016 Gatineau 25K win in her home country of Canada was a real platform in which she used to become a growing face in the WTA tour. Her debut came in 2017 and reached her first final that year, winning the doubles title in the Coupe Banque Nationale.
It has been 2019 though which has been a remarkable year, reaching the final of the ASB Classic after beating both Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki, before going all the way at Newport Beach to claim her first WTA 125K singles title.
That victory pushed her up the rankings, overtaking Eugenie Bouchard to become Canada’s best rated player.
She cemented that ranking even further at Indian Wells. Invited as a wildcard she really shone, winning her first WTA title by defeating the excellent Angelique Kerber to rise to a ranking high of number 24.
That wasn’t the end for Andreescu though. She won on a home court in the Rogers Cup and then made the entire world stand up and listen in the US Open, beating Serena Williams in the final to become the first woman to win the Grand Slam in her debut US Open tournament and the first person born in the 2000s to win a Grand Slam.
That’s skyrocketed her ranking even further and in October 2019, the 19-year-old was enjoying a number four ranking, ahead of some of the biggest names in the sport.
