Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao 2 Betting Odds
October 10, 2018
On 15th September 2018, both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao posted videos on Instagram speculating the possibility of a rematch after their first fight in Las Vegas in May 2015. Mayweather’s stated in his post that the fight would happen “this year” and that “another 9 figure payday on the way”, and was heard remarking to Pacquiao that he was going to “take the belt from you as I did before”.
In Pacquiao’s video (posted with the comment “50-1 #NoExcuses”), Mayweather was heard mentioning the “2nd of December”, but it is unknown if any formal negotiations as to date and venue have actually taken place. According to various sources, the fight will likely be in Las Vegas and two target dates are 1st December and 8th December.

Several locations have been suggested as possibilities, including the MGM Grand (Las Vegas), T-Mobile Arena (Las Vegas), AT & T Stadium (Dallas) and Barclays Center (New York). Other possible locations include Tokyo, Macau and Dubai. With Pacquiao reportedly having debts with the IRS that could prevent him from fighting in the United States, options elsewhere could well be more appealing.
Mayweather vs Pacquiao Betting Tips
When contemplating Mayweather vs Pacquiao betting tips, there are several factors to take into account. The fact that Mayweather was a comprehensive winner when the pair last met in 2015 and that he can boast the aforementioned unblemished record, makes him the strong favourite to beat Pacquiao again.
Mayweather is the undefeated five-division world champion, but the 41-year-old has not fought since his bout with UFC star Conor McGregor in August 2017 and he announced his retirement after the 10th-round stoppage-win over McGregor, taking his record to 50-0 in the process.
The fact that he hasn’t fought for well over a year, coupled with his advancing years, could become an issue and there also has to be a possibility that, coming out of retirement, he might not be 100% focused or has failed to prepare properly for the fight.
In terms of Mayweather vs Pacquiao betting tips, unless Pacquiao can get the fight won in the opening half-a-dozen rounds or so, it’s difficult to see the Filipino having the power to go the distance and beat his opponent.
On that basis, Floyd Mayweather to win by Decision or Technical Decision is available at -125 at Betway and, as in the first fight, that looks to be the most likely outcome again.
Mayweather vs Pacquiao Betting Odds
As things stand, Floyd Mayweather can be backed at -225 with Betway Sports, while Manny Pacquiao is +210 with the same bookmaker. The draw (which some cynics might fancy in the belief that it would nigh on guarantee a third lucrative contest for the fighters, is on offer at +2000 with William Hill.
There are other good reasons why the Mayweather vs Pacquiao odds favours the American fighter…
Pacquiao is the only eight-division world champion in the history of the sport, having won multiple major world titles, as well as being the first boxer to win the lineal championship in five different weight divisions. His record over 69 fights is an impressive 60-2-7, but four of those seven losses have come in his last 10 fights.
In his last fight, Pacquiao scored his first knockout in nine years by stopping Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse in round 7 to win the WBA (Regular) welterweight title. Indeed, Pacquiao dropped Matthysse a total of 3 times before the fight was stopped in round seven. Even so, that record over recent years doesn’t bode well against a fighter with Mayweather’s superb defensive skills.
Recap: Mayweather vs Pacquiao 1
The pair first met at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in May 2015 in what was billed as, “The Fight of the Century”.
It was also the most lucrative fight in history, with estimates being that it generated US$400m in total, (the fighters split about US$230m between them), with Mayweather winning via unanimous decision, with the three judges scoring the fight, 118–110; 116–112; 116–112. Pacquiao would later blame a shoulder injury for his defeat.
It was an extremely cagey opening to the fight, with both boxers largely keeping a respectful distance, although Mayweather did land a couple of impressive right hands on the counter.
Many thought that Pacquiao’s left hand would be the key to his chances of beating Mayweather but, although he did rock him in the 4th round and gave his opponent a few other uncomfortable moments, Mayweather made his greater height and size count as the fight reached the mid-point of its scheduled 12 rounds and it became apparent that the Filipino lacked the necessary power to deliver a knockout blow well before the end.
In truth, the fight failed to live up to its billing as a spectacle, but it was still intriguing as Mayweather produced another defensive masterclass and did the damage to his opponent when necessary. The statistics for punches thrown told the story, with Mayweather throwing 435, of which 148 landed. By comparison, Pacquiao threw a similar number of 429 punches, but only 81 found their target.
