Redblacks vs. Roughriders Match Preview & Betting Odds 2018/19
September 13, 2018
Ottawa is kind of a strange team. At times, they seem to have a capable and explosive offence; they exploded for 44 points in a win over Winnipeg just a couple weeks ago. But then most of the time, it gets sluggish and unproductive—like the last couple weeks. They put up 14 in a loss to the Lions last week and just 11 against Montreal the week before.
Saskatchewan is tough against the run (second in yards allowed/game) and against the pass (third in yards allowed/game). But they tend to let teams score a little more often than most when teams get near the end zone (fifth in points allowed/game; 24.6).
However, their offence could have some production issues of their own this week. With pivot Zach Collaros going down with an injury last week, it appears that Brandon Bridge could get the start this week. With Collaros behind centre, the Roughriders have been 4-1. Bridge has gone 3-3 in his.
When Bridge has been the starter, the Roughriders have scored 20 or more points just once.
So—who’s going to win?
Ottawa has a stingy defence as well and could severely limit a Roughrider offence led by its backup pivot. At the same time, the Roughriders defence will not make it easy on Ottawa to move the ball either. In the end, Saskatchewan’s defence will win the day.
Take Saskatchewan (-185) to win over the Redblacks (+160) and cover the spread (4.0). But with both offences not looking great right now, go with the under (50.5).
