Switzerland v Canada Preview & Betting Odds 2018/19
December 25, 2018
If results go as anticipated, Canada will certainly have expected to have beaten Denmark in their group opener with relative ease. The Swiss faced a far more difficult task as underdogs against the Czech Republic in their first game. The Swiss lost twice in friendly internationals to the Czechs in July of this year (3-1 and 6-3), so anything they take from the game will be a bonus.
Canada and Switzerland were in action against each other in another friendly international barely a week prior to Thursday’s game, with the Canadians running out 5-3 winners. It’s difficult to know how seriously one should take the scoreline, as the Canucks clearly won’t have been going full out in a game a week before the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships 2018-19 even begins. Their main focus will be on sterner challenges ahead.
Perhaps a better indication of the two teams’ standings in the game is that when the teams met at the 2017-18 World Championship U20 finals in the USA at the quarter-final stage, Canada ran out comprehensive 8-2 winners (Max Comtois, who scored twice for Canada in the recent 5-3 win against the Swiss, also scored once in this game).
It would be a seismic shock were the Swiss to beat Canada on Thursday, but any World Junior Ice Hockey predictions for a Canada win certainly won’t make you rich if you are thinking of backing them on the Money Line, as the odds are likely to be around -2500 at best!
Realistically the ‘Puck Line’ could be the best way to back a Canada win, with a fairly straightforward victory looking the likeliest outcome as they start to grow into the tournament.
