Chiefs vs. Patriots Match Preview & Betting Odds 2018/19
October 10, 2018
The Kansas City Chiefs have certainly been the team to watch this season as new quarterback Patrick Mahomes has taken the league by storm. In his first year as a starter, he has been lighting up every defence he has faced. He did fail to throw a touchdown pass last week against Jacksonville. But he did clear 300+ yards (but also had his first two interceptions).
With how the Patriots defence has been this season, it is not hard to imagine Mahomes having success against them. New England’s pass defence woke up against Miami a couple of weeks ago. But then it got thrashed for 365 yards by Andrew Luck (playing without his best receiver).
Which version will show up against the Chiefs? It will be impossible to know until Sunday night.
But it may not matter if Tom Brady can get his offence moving. Against the Chiefs defence, that shouldn’t be too hard. While they did step up against Jacksonville last week with five turnovers, the still allowed over 400 yards passing and another 100+ on the ground.
What that means is that the Chiefs may score a lot, but the Patriots will, too.
So—who’s going to win?
This game could very well come down to whichever team has the ball last. Neither defence can be trusted to do much more than slow down the other’s offence. It won’t be shocking if neither team’s punter attempts a single kick.
As good as the Chiefs have been this season, it is hard to go against Tom Brady and the Patriots. Take the Patriots (-171) to win over the Chiefs (+154). But against the spread, take the Chiefs and the points. As for the over/under (58.5)— definitely the over.
