Giants vs. 49ers Match Preview & Betting Odds 2018/19
November 08, 2018
The Giants will enter the contest on a five-game losing streak. They have been held to 20 points or less in four of the five and gave up 3+ in three of them. So, while it has been easy for most to point the finger at Eli Manning, he is not the only one underperforming this season.
Rookie running back Saquon Barkley has had some moments and Odell Beckham Jr. is still one of the best in the business, but the offense has been unable to put together a complete game all season.
But there pass defense is not bad (11th). With the injuries the 49ers have had at running back, they may have no choice but to lean on their passing game. That could end up playing right into the Giants’ strength.
#49ers will start Nick Mullens at QB on Monday night against Giants.— Nick Wagoner (@nwagoner) November 6, 2018
The 49ers are starting former scout-team-QB-turned-first-teamer Nick Mullens. When they made the announcement last week, the world said a collective ‘who?’ But then he went out and threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns.
To be fair, he did so against a very bad Oakland Raiders team. While the Giants have their faults, they are a much better team than the Raiders. The 49ers will be down another running back this week with Raheem Mostert suffering a season-ending injury last week.
Can Mullens do it again this week?
It will not be as easy, but there is no reason to think he can’t. The Giants defense will be tougher, but he has a good group of receivers, a solid tight end, and some decent running backs to help him out.
Take the 49ers to win and cover the spread. With neither offense looking great this season, the under is likely a safe bet.
