Panthers vs. Steelers Match Preview & Betting Odds 2018/19

Spread: Steelers by 5.5 Over/Under: 50 Money line: Panthers +201; Steelers -225

Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers likely feared that their team would miss the services of running back Le’Veon Bell this season. But so far, that hasn’t been the case thanks to James Conner. With Conner shredding one of the better defenses in the NFL last week (the Ravens), the future is looking good with or without Bell. But what fans may want to see first is whether he can do it again against another top-notch defense.

Conner will get the chance to do just that Thursday night when the Steelers take on the Carolina Panthers.

Overall, the Panthers have the eighth ranked defense (yards allowed). So far this season, they are only allowing 94.1 yards rushing (7th) and 251 passing (13th) a game. If Carolina is going to beat the Steelers, they will need to limit Conner as well as Roethlisberger and the passing game.

But, along with limiting the Steelers offense, the Panthers will need to get their own offense moving. With an average of 27.5 points a game scored (tied for 11th), they must be doing a decent job. However, with much of it flowing through Cam Newton (75 percent of it), the right defense can shut the Panthers offense down.

 Does Pittsburgh have that defense?

The Steelers will not be able to shut Newton down, but they will be able to limit him enough to win the game. James Conner will do enough to pace the Steelers offense while the defense does the rest.

Take the Steelers to win and cover the spread. With the offensive potential that will be on the field, take the over.
