Vikings vs. Seahawks Match Preview & Betting Odds 2018/19
December 04, 2018
A loss this week could make the road to the playoffs pretty rocky for the Minnesota Vikings or Seattle Seahawks. They will still have a chance if they lose; it will just be a lot tougher.
For the Vikings to have a shot, they can’t play offense like they did last week. Even though Dalvin Cook found some gaps, they barely ran the ball (he had nine carries). Kirk Cousins has averaged over seven yards an attempt in the passing game this season. But against the Patriots only averaged 4.6.
The Vikings can’t win unless they try to press the ball downfield. They didn’t try to against the Patriots. They will need to against the Seahawks. But they are also going to have to figure out a way to control Seattle’s No. 1 run game and Russell Wilson.
Focus on stopping the run, and you risk leaving the secondary in man-to-man coverage a lot. Russell Wilson will pick man coverage apart. Worry too much about the pass and Chris Carson, Mike Davis, and Rashaad Penny will run wild.
So—who’s going to win?
Minnesota’s defense is going to make the Seahawks work for every yard they get. But the Seattle defense is going to return the favor. They will gladly tackle the Vikings skill position guys for two, three, or four-yard gains, much like the Patriots did.
It will be a close game throughout the first half. But in the second, the Seahawks will use their run game to take it over. Take Seattle to win, straight up and against the spread.
As for the over/under—take the over.
