Boston Bruins vs St. Louis Blues Prediction & Betting Odds - Stanley Cup Final Preview
June 13, 2019
The St. Louis Blues beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 on the road in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night to secure the first NHL championship in their 52-year history with a 4-3 series win.
The Bruins dominated the play for long periods and outshot the Blues 33-20, but couldn’t find a way past rookie St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington until the game was long lost.
The Blues took control of the game with two goals in the final few minutes of the first period, with captain Alex Pietrangelo scoring the second goal with just eight seconds of the period remaining on the clock.
Ryan O’Reilly (who won the Conn Smythe trophy as the MVP of the postseason), Pietrangelo, Brayden Schenn and Zach Sanford scored for St. Louis, although it was Binnington who put in a match-winning performance in saving 32 shots.
Boston’s only goal came from Matt Grzelcyk in the last few minutes of the game, while Tuukka Rask stopped 16 shots. The 2019–20 NHL regular season will begin on October 4, 2019, with an international game played in Prague, Czech Republic.
The Bruins will be taking part in their 20th final and for the third time in the past decade, having won it in 2011 and finished runners-up in 2013. They will be seeking their seventh title.
The Blues appeared in three straight finals from 1968 to 1970, but never prior to then or after. They lost all three of those finals, with the last one in 1970 being to none other than the Bruins, who won the series 4-0.
How They Reached the Final
The Bruins route to the final in the NHL playoffs has seen them win 4-3 against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference First Round; the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 in the second round and Carolina Hurricanes 4-0 in the Conference Final.
The Blues beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 in the Western Conference First Round; the Dallas Stars 4-3 in the second round and the San Jose Sharks 4-2 in the Conference Final.
One factor that could be an issue for the Bruins is that they might need to shake off a little rust going into the series having been off for 10 days since sweeping the Canes.
Players To Watch
Brad Marchand has been a key player for the Bruins to date, having 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 17 playoff games, while goalie Tuukka Rask has a 1.84 Goals Against Average (GAA) and a .942 save percentage.
Jaden Schwartz has 12 goals in 19 playoff games for the Blues, while rookie goalie Jordan Binnington has 2.36 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
The Bruins lead the NHL on the power play in the playoffs at 34.0 percent, while the Blues are at 19.4 percent.
Boston Bruins vs St. Louis Blues Betting Pick
With home-ice advantage and greater big game experience on the roster, the Boston Bruins are the tips to win the Stanley Cup in 2019.
The Blues have defied tipster predictions this year though, so certainly can’t be discounted. A 4-1 series win for Boston at attractive Stanley Cup odds could be possible if they can get off to a winning start in Game 1 on Monday night.
