Canada eased past defending champions Finland in the semi-finals with a 5-0 routing, with the game effectively won after they raced into a 3-0 lead after just 3:55.
Canada led 4-0 at the end of the first period and then shut up shop to ensure there was no way back for the team who eliminated them at the quarter-final stage of the tournament a year ago.
Alexis Lafreniere led the way for Canada with two goals, with Connor McMichael, Jamie Drysdale and Ty Dellandrea also scoring. Joel Hofer made 32 saves.

Russia’s semi-final against Sweden was far more competitive, going to OT before the Russians edged home 5-4. Sweden raced into an early lead after just 16 seconds, but Russia rallied to go 3-1 up, only to then trail 4-3 in the third period.
They leveled the game to take it into overtime, where Ivan Morozov scored the decisive goal (his second of the game). Russia’s other goals came from Yegor Sokolov (who also scored twice) and Alexander Khovanov. Yaroslav Askarov made 16 saves, with his replacement Amir Miftakhov saving five from five.
