Canada vs Switzerland Betting Prediction & Odds - IIHF 2019 Preview
May 23, 2019
Despite losing their opening group game 3-1 to Finland, Canada went on to win their next six games to finish top of Group A after beating the USA 3-0 in their final group game. Even so, they only secured top spot after former leaders Finland went down to a slightly surprising 4-2 loss to Germany in their final game
Switzerland finished fourth in Group B having ended with three straight defeats, including a 5-4 loss to the Czech Republic in their last game. They won the first four of their group games, before going down to defeats against Sweden and Russia as well as the Czechs. The formbook clearly favours the Team Canada going into this last-eight encounter.
This tie also presents an opportunity for the Canadians to exact revenge on the Swiss, who pulled off a shock in beating them 3-2 at the semi-final of the IIHF World Championship 2018 in Denmark.

Canada vs Switzerland Head to Head
Switzerland also beat Canada in the group stage at the IIHF World Championship 2017, again winning 3-2, although on that occasion the game went to OT after Canada had surrendered a two-goal advantage after just 6:28 of the first period.
Canada have beaten Switzerland in other tournaments over the last couple of years, but the Swiss appear to have a hoodoo over the Canadians in recent IIHF World Championship matchups.
The Canadians have been vastly superior to Switzerland at the IIHF World Championship 2019 on the Power Play % efficiency to date, with Canada topping the standings at 52.63%, while the Swiss are down in 13th position at a lowly 11.43%. On Penalty Killing, there’s little between the teams, with Canada at 80.95% and Switzerland marginally better at 82.61%.
Canada also have the co-leading scorer at this year’s tournament in 7-goal Anthony Mantha.
