The ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor makes his return to the UFC octagon on January 18 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the main event of UFC 246. The Irishman will be a clear betting lines favourite to make a triumphant return, despite not winning in the UFC since 2016.

Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has lost his last two fights at 155lb, but steps up to 170lb to face McGregor, in a match-up that has been a long time coming.

Conor McGregor Vs Donald Cowboy Cerrone Predictions

Conor McGregor is a former two-weight champion at 145lb and 155lb. But as we know, his fame and fortune has seen him become distant from the sport in recent years. McGregor returned to the octagon in 2018, where he lost by submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov. The feeling is that McGregor didn’t prepare for the fight particularly well, perhaps lacking the hunger that took him to the pinnacle of MMA from 2013 to 2016.

Recent social media posts and general vibes from the SBG Ireland camp (Straight Blast Gym) is that the McGregor is back to his old self in the gym. He does have a point to prove and a hungry, prepared Conor McGregor is a problem for anyone at 155lb and 170lb.

Conor McGregor Vs Cowboy Cerrone is a great match-up and Donald Cerrone is very dangerous. He can be easy to hit though and if McGregor’s striking is on point, a stoppage win could be likely. If this goes the other way, Cerrone is excellent on the ground and could hand the ‘Notorious’ his third submission loss in the UFC. Conor McGregor vs Donald Cerrone Betting Odds

Betting Odds - Winner

It’s no surprise that the returning Conor McGregor is the bookmakers favourite on the UFC 246 betting lines at -225 (1.44) with bet365, with Donald Cowboy Cerrone trading as the underdog at +190 (2.90) with 888Sport.

At his best, McGregor’s sniper-like left hand, his slick movement and impeccable timing saw him plough through the featherweight and lightweight divisions like a steam train. However, Donald Cerrone has more UFC wins to his name than anyone and is dangerous all over. He has every incentive to be at his absolute best for this fight and pour water on Conor McGregor’s comeback.

You can currently bet on McGregor to win by KO/TKO at around -137.50 (1.73) with Sports Interaction, which can be seen as pretty decent UFC odds. Conor McGregor has finished seven opponents by way of KO, with only Max Holloway and Nate Diaz able to take him the distance. As we’ve seen with Cerrone though, he is vulnerable to fight stopping shots and tends to start slow, which is not a good look against McGregor.

He doesn’t need the money, but 2020 could be a big year for McGregor to regain some respect in the sport that made him. A win over Cowboy is a solid place to start.
