The title belt has been vacated by Henry Cejudo, with Benavidez (who has previously beaten Cejudo) making his third attempt at claiming the crown, having previously been beaten twice by Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson – once on a controversial split decision and then by KO. This will be Figueiredo’s first title fight.

The 35 year-old American Benavidez was last in action in June 2019, when he Jussier Formiga in the latter stages of the second round.

Betting Odds - Winner

The 32 year-old Brazilian Figueiredo’s last fight was in October 2019, when he beat the American Tim Elliott on a first round submission. Other than a unanimous decision defeat to the aforementioned Formiga in March last year, Figueiredo has won all his previous fights.

The Brazilian can certainly win this fight, with his punching power and jiu-jitsu skills on the floor giving him every chance.

What he may lack is experience and possibly stamina. This will be the biggest fight of Figueiredo’s career and he has never gone beyond three rounds previously. Should his cardio be suspect, the vastly experienced Benavidez will exploit them.
