Montreal took on the Boston Bruins on home-ice on Tuesday evening before this game and were humiliated in front of their fans with an 8-1 drubbing by the Bruins. The Canadiens are now on a five game losing run but should be pumped to bounce back and stop the rot against the Devils who are a step down after facing an imperious Bruins team.

The Canadiens losing streak should have ended on Saturday night, when they led 4-0 early in the second period and 5-3 in the third, before going on to lose 6-5 on home-ice to the New York Rangers. Max Domi and Artturi Lehkonen both scored twice for the Canadiens in this game, with captain Shea Weber scoring their other goal. Goalie Carey Price stopped 28 shots.

New Jersey Devils were also in action on the Tuesday evening prior to this game when they hosted the Minnesota Wild but like the Canadiens also lost on home ice but by a much more respectable 3-2 scoreline.

In their previous game the Devils had a convincing 5-1 win on home-ice against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night, with goals from Kyle Palmieri, Will Butcher, two from Blake Coleman and Taylor Hall, while Louis Domingue made 19 saves in his first start for New Jersey.
