Playoffs Round 1 - Tampa Bay Lightning vs Columbus Blue Jackets Betting Odds & Prediction

Presidents’ Trophy winners Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Round 1 matchup in the Eastern Conference.

The Lightning come in to the playoffs on the back of a remarkable regular season, in which they claimed a remarkable 62 wins and 128 points, tying the mark set by the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings in doing so and just falling short of the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens’ record of 132 points.

It looks a thankless task for the Blue Jackets, who secured Wild card entry to the playoffs after winning seven of their final eight games in the regular season.

The Lightning will have home-ice advantage throughout the NHL playoffs, which makes the task facing the Blue Jackets under former Lightning coach John Tortorella all the more challenging.

In addition, the Lightning won all six games against the Blue Jackets in the regular season and outscored them 29-7 in doing so.

Round 1 Odds - 11.4.19

The Lightning has averaged 3.89 Goals per Game (1st in overall NHL standings), while allowing 2.70 Goals per Game (7th overall). On an individual basis, Steven Stamkos has scored 45 goals, while Nikita Kucherov has contributed 87 assists.

The Blue Jackets have averaged 3.12 Goals per Game (12th overall), while allowing 2.82 Goals per Game (11th overall). Cam Atkinson has lit the lamp 41 times this season, while Artemi Panarin has weighed in with 59 assists.

We are still awaiting odds and lines on the playoff games, but it’s safe to presume they will strongly side with the Lightning against the Blue Jackets.

Few predictions will opt for the Blue Jackets to cause an upset, with the Lightning looking a level above all their peers this season. On that basis, the tip in this series has to be a 4-0 win for the Lightning.
