Raptors vs. Spurs Match Preview and Betting Odds 2018/19
January 03, 2019
This game should be a competitive one. The Toronto Raptors (28-11) are ninth in the league in scoring (113.1 points/game) and has the fourth best point differential (+5.6). But the San Antonio Spurs (21-17) aren’t too far behind (111.5 points/game—ninth; +2.3-point differential).
However, how they are playing right now matters a lot more than how they have played throughout the season. With the injuries the Raptors are dealing with (Kyle Lowry is expected to be out again), they are not playing exceptionally well of late.
Thanks to a career-best 45-point effort by Kawhi Leonard, they were able to beat the Utah Jazz Tuesday. But they are 4-4 in their last eight games with an offensive and defensive rating towards the bottom of the league (24th)
San Antonio, on the other hand, has been the best offensive team and the third best defensive team over the same stretch. They will be coming into Thursday’s game having had a couple of days off after beating the Boston Celtics on New Year’s Eve.

STOP THIS KAWHI!— Toronto Raptors (@Raptors) January 2, 2019
So—who’s going to win?
The return of Kawhi Leonard will mean more to the fans in San Antonio more than the players and will have no real impact on the game. Leonard is doing his best to carry the Raptors right now with Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas out.
If they are going to win, he will have to.
But Gregg Popovich will know how to handle his former star. As long as LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan do not go ice-cold from the floor, San Antonio wins this one with ease. So, take San Antonio to win, straight up and against the spread.
