Defending champion Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker (20-4-0) and the unbeaten interim champion Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya (17-0-0) battle it out for the UFC Middleweight title at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday night.

This is a highly anticipated fight between two very different characters, with Whittaker being far more reserved than the brash Adesanya. Whittaker has also had a lengthy period of inactivity due to injury, whereas the 30 year-old New Zealand based Nigerian has been far more active, with this being his seventh fight since February 2018.

They both were given hard fights last time out, with the 28 year-old Australian beating the Cuban Yoel Romero on a Split Decision back in June of last year. Adesanya last fought in April, when he retained his 100% record by beating the American Kelvin Gastelum by Unanimous Decision.

Whittaker had himself been due to fight Gastelum in February this year, but he was taken ill just hours before the scheduled bout and had to undergo emergency dual surgery for an abdominal hernia and a twisted/collapsed bowel.

Whittaker vs Adesanya Betting Lines & Picks

There’s nothing to choose between the two fighters in terms of the UFC 243 betting odds going into this fight, with Robert Whittaker at odds of -110 (1.91) with bet365 and the line on Israel Adesanya also at -110 (1.91) with Betway Sports.

That’s obviously an indication that betting predictions for this fight are far from easy. As in his last fight against Gastelum, “The Last Stylebender” does have a significant reach advantage of 6 1/2 inches over Whittaker. However, until tiring later in the bout, Gastelum was successfully able to close the distance and “The Reaper” is a better athlete with the cardio that should enable him to go the full five rounds if required.

Whittaker looks to have the greater variety in his locker, so we’ll take the champion as our tip to win this fight.
