Texans vs. Colts Match Preview and Betting Odds 2018/19
January 02, 2019
The Colts come in having played incredible defense down the stretch, but the real key to their success has been the protection the offensive line has given Andrew Luck. Luck was sacked just 18 times this season, but six came against the Texans. When he has time, there isn’t a defense he can’t pick apart.
Houston has stayed true to their formula throughout the season—lay hard-nosed defense and control the clock with the run game. When they need to, let Deshaun Watson loose in the passing game. They have the third-best rushing defense and eighth best rushing offense so that formula can work.
But lately, their secondary has been getting shredded forcing the team to lean a little more on Watson to win games. However, the Texans have done a terrible job of protecting Watson all season. In two games, the Colts defense recorded 12 sacks and 19 hits on him.

So—who’s going to win?
The Colts will not be able to run against the Texans, but they will be able to throw almost at will. There is no reason to think they can’t. Houston is going to have to establish a running game with Lamar Miller and Watson to keep Luck off the field.
But the Colts haven’t allowed a team to run for 100+ yards since Week 12 (Dolphins—113 total yards). If Houston can’t run, they can’t win. So, look for Andrew Luck to have a big day and lead the Colts to a win in a very close game.
