Timberwolves vs. Thunder Match Preview and Betting Odds 2018/19
January 08, 2019
The Minnesota Timberwolves (19-21) certainly picked an odd time to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau. The team had just beaten the Los Angeles Lakers by 22-points. LeBron James was still out, but it was a strong win, nonetheless. December was a rough month, but they were still in contention for a playoff spot with more than half the season remaining.
But the decision was made, Thibodeau was let go, and assistant coach Ryan Saunders was promoted to interim head coach. He should be able to provide his young team with some much-needed stability going forward. There is no reason to think the team can’t continue to improve under his guidance.

Over the last week, they have been one of the better defensive teams in the league. They will have to be even better Tuesday night if they are going to take down Russell Westbrook, Paul George and the rest of the Thunder.
For the season, the Thunder are the best defensive teams in the league (rating of 101.7) allowing 105.8 points a game (fifth lowest). On the offensive end, they have been averaging over 111 a game. But their last time out (Sunday against the Washington Wizards; a 116-98 loss) they had arguably their worst game of the season.
So—who’s going to win?
Many will expect the Timberwolves to slip with the surprise firing of Tom Thibodeau, but Ryan Saunders was named the interim head coach for a reason. He is more likely to keep the team on track than anyone.
If they bring their ‘A’ game, the Timberwolves can give the Thunder a run for their money. Expect them to do so but for the Thunder to come out on top in the end. Take Oklahoma City to win, but they will not cover the spread.
