USA U20 v Finland U20 Preview & Betting Odds 2019
January 05, 2019
The US have only suffered one defeat in the tournament in reaching this final, with their solitary loss to date coming when they went down 5-4 in OT to Sweden in their third group game. It was still a game that they came out of with their heads held high though, having recovered from being 4-0 down in the third Period to take the game into overtime. Indeed, it was arguably the game in which they came to really believe in themselves as a team.
They followed the loss to Sweden with a 4-1 win against Finland in their final group game, which ensured that they finished 2nd in Group B behind the Swedes and gives them a definite psychological edge going into the final.
After a solid performance saw them beat the Czech Republic 3-1 in the quarter-final, the USA overcame Russia 2-1 at the semi-final stage, with goals from Oliver Wahlstrom and Alexander Chmelevski.
Recommended Odds - USA U20 v Finland U20
Following the aforementioned 4-1 loss to the USA, Finland had what looked to be the tougher draw in the playoffs. They certainly couldn’t have had a much more difficult task than their quarter-final tie against host nation and defending champions Canada, yet despite going a goal down, Finland recovered to take the game 2-1 in OT. They went on to thump Switzerland 6-1 in their semi-final game.
It’s impossible to be entirely confident in any betting predictions in a major final, particularly in a game between two fairly evenly matched teams. However, the fact that the USA beat Finland in the group stage has to count for something, so they look like the team to back in this game on the Money Line odds to win the game and take the gold at World Junior Ice Hockey Championships 2018-19.
