Max Holloway VS Brian Ortega Odds and Betting Preview
November 29, 2018
Every fighter needs a good nickname and Brian Ortega’s T-City isn’t bad. But we think that the Californian fighter could come up with something better, something more evocative. Watching his victory over Cub Swanson could inspire Homer Simpson to wax lyrical about Ortega’s fighting style.
It was an extraordinary guillotine submission that saw Swanson fall victim to a snake that was preparing to squeeze the life out of him, no matter where he stood.
That’s something Max Holloway will need to be careful of at UFC 231. Don’t think for a second that you have to be on the mat for Ortega to make you tap. That man will climb you like you’re the Empire State building and he’s King Kong. Holloway will hope that the planes being swatted away aren’t the hands of the referee trying to pry Ortega away from him. That metaphor was stretched to breaking point.
Holloway has enough concerns coming into this Featherweight title fight. It’s the first defence of his belt this year following a series of health problems, the last of which saw him pull out of a previously-scheduled fight against Ortega due to concussion-like symptoms.
It’s worrying but if Holloway is fighting now then we have reason to believe he’s fit enough to do so. In which case, the relentless striker is a decent bet at 5/2 to win by KO, TKO or disqualification with Sky Bet. We’d go for that but Ortega is a tempting 11/10 with William Hill to win the fight.
